Activity – A successful, authentic you
Take a moment to think about this quote……”There is only one success – to be able to spend your life in your own way.”
I think this is a great quote. It hits the nail on the head in my opinion. To live your life in your own way, being true to yourself and who you are must surely be the epitome of success. What do you think?
STOP! Take a moment to ask yourself……..
- What would it mean for you to “live your life in your own way?” What would this involve?
- What, if anything stops you from doing this?
Why not take the time to post your answers as a comment?

I do believe I am living my life my own way – I have made career changes which furthered my goals, and the support of a career coach was very important in giving me the confidence to make those changes. What, if anything, stops you from doing this – is that other people in one’s life may have goals which confilct with one’s own – but that’s fine. In my life, those people’s goals are as important as mine, and I can tailor my plans accordingly. Achieving success doesn’t have to mean ignoring others!
Kay, That’s a good one to aim for in all aspects of life.
Here’s one I like to reflect upon in the context of career and success.
It’s from the Brazilian CEO of Semco, Ricardo Semler:
“Success is not measured only in profits and growth”.

Whilst agreeing the message in the quotation, I think there is a danger that it is mis-interpreted in a selfish way. Great to strive to spend your life in your own way but we are all living in families, societies and communities that give us responsibilities to others and I think we have to be cognisant of those others when we strive to, as Frank Sinatra sang, ‘do it my way’.
